Policy

Advertising, sponsorship and direct marketing

What we will and will not sell, and how it is kept away from editorial decisions.

DOAJ and WAME both ask publishers to state their advertising policy and their sources of revenue. This is ours.

Advertising

OAIFR carries no advertising of any kind. We do not accept advertisements from third-party agencies, corporate sponsors, or commercial entities on our platform, within published articles, or across our journal websites.

Where advertising appears, all of the following apply:

  • Advertisements are clearly distinguishable from editorial content and are labelled as advertising.
  • Advertisers have no influence over editorial decisions, and are never told what is under review or forthcoming.
  • Advertisements are not linked to any individual article and are not targeted by the subject of the content a reader is viewing.
  • No advertising appears within the text of an article, and no advertisement is interleaved with editorial content in a way that could be mistaken for it.
  • Advertisements for products making unsupported health claims, for tobacco, for weapons, or for services soliciting authorship, citation or peer review are refused.
  • Editors have the right to refuse any advertisement and to require its removal.
  • Advertising revenue does not influence which journals we publish or how much we publish.

Sponsorship and supplements

OAIFR does not accept sponsored supplements, sponsored special issues, or financially backed publications. All special issues and collections are initiated independently based solely on academic merit, managed by qualified guest editors with declared conflicts of interest, and subject to standard peer review.

Where a supplement or special issue is sponsored:

  • The sponsor and the nature of the sponsorship are disclosed prominently in the supplement and in every article within it.
  • Content is subject to the same peer review and the same editorial standards as the rest of the journal.
  • The sponsor has no control over content, no right of review before publication, and no veto.
  • The editor of the journal retains final authority over what appears.
  • Guest editors of a special issue are named, their conflicts declared, and their own submissions to the issue handled by an independent editor.

Direct marketing

Any direct marketing—such as calls for papers or journal announcements—is targeted, restrained, factual, and truthful about the journal’s standing, indexing, and charges. We do not buy mailing lists, we do not send bulk unsolicited invitations to submit, and we provide a clear, working mechanism to opt out of any communications.

Claims about indexing in our marketing are strictly limited to active, verified indexings at the time of sending. We never describe an application as an indexing status, nor do we report unofficial or invented metrics.

Revenue sources

OAIFR relies strictly on transparent publishing service fees and Article Processing Charges (APCs) where applicable, alongside institutional support and grants. We maintain complete independence: no revenue source, of any kind, influences editorial decisions, manuscript evaluations, or peer-review outcomes.

No revenue source, of any kind, influences an editorial decision.
