Open access and licensing

Open access

Every article published by the Open Access Institute for Research is open access from the day it is published. There is no embargo, no subscription, no pay-per-view and no registration requirement. Readers may access the full text and any supplementary material without charge.

Our journals are diamond or fully open access as stated on each title’s site, meaning readers never pay. For what authors pay, if anything, see [publication charges](/publication-charges).

Copyright

Authors retain copyright in their work. We do not require a transfer of copyright. Authors grant the journal a licence to publish, to deposit metadata with Crossref and indexing services, and to preserve the article.

Licence

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0) unless the article states otherwise. Under this licence anyone may:

• Share — copy and redistribute the article in any medium or format.
• Adapt — remix, transform and build on it, for any purpose, including commercially.

The only condition is attribution: credit the original authors and source, link to the licence, and indicate whether changes were made. The licence is stated on every article and in the article metadata.

Third-party material

Where an article reproduces figures, tables or extended quotations owned by someone else, that material may sit outside the CC BY licence. Such material carries its own credit line, and anyone wishing to reuse it should seek permission from the rights holder. Clearing permission for third-party material is the author’s responsibility.

Self-archiving and repositories

Because authors keep copyright and the article is CC BY, there are no restrictions on depositing it. Authors may deposit the submitted, accepted or published version in an institutional or subject repository, on a preprint server, on a personal or departmental page, or in a scholarly network, immediately on publication and with no embargo. We ask only that the deposited copy cites the journal and includes the DOI.

Preprints

Posting a preprint before or during submission is permitted and is not treated as prior publication. Declare the preprint and its DOI on submission, and update the preprint record with the journal citation once the article is published.

Text and data mining

The full text and metadata of our articles may be mined for any purpose under the terms of the licence.

Metadata

Article metadata is deposited with Crossref and made available to indexing services and aggregators. Metadata is distributed for reuse without restriction.
